Ariyanas – Bodegas Bentomiz – 2007

Spanish dessert wines can be a bit of a disaster area, so it was a real pleasure to discover this. Because it is made from Moscatel (Moscatel de Alexandría, the local speciality in Málaga) I was expecting something grapey, but in fact this is much more in the line of marmalade, with what feels like an incipient Rieling-esque petrol note. Beautiful, fresh acidity makes it highly drinkable; the overall effect is rather like a fresh Tokay.

88/100
